For the Apple Fries
  • 2 large apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or your favorite variety) Choose firm apples for the best results.
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour.
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (or regular breadcrumbs) Use gluten-free breadcrumbs if necessary.
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon Can experiment with different spices.
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • Cooking spray To prevent sticking in the air fryer.
For the Dipping Sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce For a sweet treat.
  • 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt For a lighter option.

Method

Preparation
  1. Peel and slice apples into ½-inch wedges, removing cores and seeds.
  2. Mix cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl.
  3. Set up a breading station with bowls of flour, beaten eggs, and panko breadcrumbs mixed with half of the cinnamon-sugar blend.
Breading
  1. Dredge each apple slice in flour, dip in beaten egg, then press into the breadcrumb mixture until evenly coated.
  2. Repeat with all slices.
Cooking
  1. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
  2. Arrange apple slices in a single layer, spray lightly with cooking spray, and air fry for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown.
  3. Sprinkle with remaining cinnamon-sugar and serve hot with caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt for dipping.

Notes

Store leftover apple fries in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 2 to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer to regain crispiness. You can also experiment with different fruits like pears or peaches.
