Method
Preparation
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, diced onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, dried thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Shape mixture into 4–6 oval patties.
Cooking Patties
- Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
- Remove patties to a plate.
Making Gravy
- In the same skillet, melt butter and cook sliced onions for 10–12 minutes until soft and golden.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce.
- Simmer the gravy until thick.
- Add the patties back into the skillet and simmer for 2–3 minutes.
Notes
Don't overmix the meat to avoid tough patties. Create a small dent in the middle of each patty to ensure it cooks evenly. Allow the onions to cook sufficiently for maximum flavor in the gravy.
